How does food shape the way we as human beings live our lives? Believe it or not, you can tell a lot about a person by what he or she eats. For example, a person who eats fast food on a daily basis could be generally classified as unhealthy or sloppy. A person who chooses to eat healthy portions of food on a daily basis can be seen as healthy and active. There are also wide varieties of different types of food as well as different food styles. Various regions of the world generate different types of foods. With France, it's "Fish and Chips", while Italy serves Pastas and different breads, and finally Asian cultures grow and produce rice.
Food has different meanings to people, depending on who you talk to. But food makes me think of family gatherings and celebrations. Whether that means holidays, birthdays, a big football game, or just to get together, my family always makes the best food. To me, nothing is better than spending a Thanksgiving with my family, eating endless amounts of food and watching football. I enjoy the fact that my family takes the time to make home-cooked meals instead of ordering from a restaurant because home-cooked meals are so much more delicious and food from restaurants taste plain and generic. Also, a home-cooked meal means that a family member took the time to prepare the meal for our family, and that just makes the food more special. The best part about food is the conversations that come from eating together. People who are eating with each other find it easier to interact and socialize with one another.
Along with the many good things that come from food, bad things also come from food. We as Americans have struggled with obesity for quite some time and more and more people are having problems with it. With the fast growth of the fast food industry, food is made available quickly and affordably to people. However, even though the fast food is extremely cheap and easy to obtain, the food that comes from it isn't necessarily the healthiest. It is understandable that a person doesn't feel like cooking sometimes, and that getting a quick hamburger at McDonald's might be the easiest solution. Although convenient, fast food restaurants are the source of the obesity problem in the United States. But, healthy foods aren't the cheapest foods out there. The main reason people eat at fast food restaurants are because they can't afford to buy healthy foods at the grocery store on a daily basis. Without competitive prices from the healthy foods, obesity will continue to be a problem in the United States.
